About MNLD: Objective

"MNLD" is a blog in which I will be reviewing zombie cinema and sharing zombie news and zombie-related thoughts and experiences.  If the previous sentence horrified you and/or made you question my sanity, then this likely isn't the blog for you.  But if you, like me, dig zombies (get it?), then here's hoping you'll find this blog interesting, entertaining, and perhaps even useful.

Although I've used the term "zombie" pretty frequently, I have no doubt that I'll dabble a bit into non-zombie undead flicks as well (think Evil Dead series, for example), as many non-Z-word undead films share a lot in common with the zombie genre.

But don't expect vampires.

Undead though they may be, vampires suffer from one unfortunate flaw: all in all, most imaginings of vampires have them looking pretty human.  Many have them looking like pretty humans.  So it was pretty inevitable that movies like Twilight were going to happen.  But that doesn't mean I have to watch, let alone review, those movies.

Zombies, on the other hand, are not conducive to supernatural romance, so when I rent Boy Eats Girl or Zombie Honeymoon, I can be pretty safe in assuming that I'm not about to watch Titanic with a little bit more neck biting.  Which is comforting.

But there's still a huge range of zombie flicks, from the suspenseful satires of Romero to the bloodiest of hack-and-slash gore fests.  Some movies are completely serious while others are completely tongue-in-cheek, and still others are spot-on parodies that never once crack a smile.  And the zombies themselves vary, as well.  Some zombies are dead, some are undead, and some are alive.  Some are linked with magic, or curses, or radiation, or disease.  Some are essentially demons.  Some are fast.  Some are slow.  Some can talk.  Some are utterly inhuman.  Some are sympathetic figures.  Some inspire anger or fear.  Some are so anonymous as to inspire almost nothing.

And they're all fair game on "MNLD."
